Summer is Approaching!!

Soon it will be time to for summer holidays! We can't wait. But before you throw off your sandals and hit the beach let's work extra hard on our pieces to make this your BEST MUSIC RECITAL EVER!

Do your best to memorize the music so you are confident playing or singing your songs. When it is time to perform we like to be as prepared as possible so bring your music with you to the recital but hopefully you will not need to depend on it much during your special performance.

Remember, this is a very special event! We want you to feel good about yourself and enjoy your accomplishments. Your parents and maybe even Grandparents will be taking photos. Dress nicely and remember to smile and bow politely when you have completed your part of the recital.

We are aiming for June 26th which is a Wednesday evening. This date is yet to be confirmed based on whether the building is available for us to use or not. We will let you know soon.

Many students will be starting a new music book in September. Congratulations for working and practicing diligently throughout this year! We can purchase the books for you during the summer or if you prefer to become familiar with some of the music during the quiet summer days, we can arrange to pick them up for you and have them at the music recital.

We will hold one SUMMER MUSIC WORKSHOP this year for beginner students. If you are in the first 3 years of piano lessons, then this workshop is especially for you! The date of our summer workshop is from July 10 through 12th from 10:30 - 12:00. Please let us know as soon as possible if your family will be out of town at that time.

Speak to your teacher today to RESERVE YOUR TIME SLOT for next year. We will begin filling up spaces based on the first-come-first-served Wednesday and Thursdays from 4:00 - 8:30 with a one hour break from 6:00 - 7:00 pm so we can have dinner.

Just a reminder that students should WASH HANDS before and after each lesson. This year we had one student come down with chicken pox and thank goodness it was not spread to the other students. But we realize how easily germs can spread when sharing an instrument so we had better keep those happy little fingers clean!

For our Violin Fans and Students this article has some great advice on selecting the right type of instrument.

..it is always important that you get hold of a violin that you can manage to pay for and the one that can perform the job. If you are a beginner, you would want a violin that has the excellence to last and one that can take a slight pushing for you.

Our Group Spring Session was Fantastic!

We had a very good turn out for our Spring Group Session. Students were well-mannered and got along very well. We played a game called 'Musical Shamrocks' and enjoyed Key Lime floats together before heading down to the piano studio to share our music, tips and feedback with each other. We had a variety of musical abilities and interests which kept the sharing block engaging. Our piano and voice students all did a wonderful job and kept their music alive with strong dynamics, 'dancing' phrasing, and an upbeat tempo where necessary.

Preparation is the key to a good performance. Your steady practicing and diligence has paid off.  I am very excited to hear you again in June at our year-end recital!
(Confirmed date and location for recital will be posted on this blog for you soon.)

Thank you to everyone that came by and shared the fun!

Happy Spring to all of our Music Students!

Music on-line - Sally DeFord

We are always open to inviting new voices and talent to share the joy of music with us. Please send us an email if you or your group wish to take part in a spiritual musical event or church service with us. (burgartstudios@gmail.com)

"No Greater Love" is one piece that our church choir enjoyed performing for Christmas. It was was quick to learn and left all present with a warm, tingly feeling. Below are two very different, and very lovely, YouTube versions of this beautiful Sally DeFord song.

Defordmusic.com is a website that we are regularly visiting! We always will find beautiful arrangements of spiritual music for solo, duet and choir performances at defordmusic.com. Perhaps you have heard some of these pieces being performed or performed a few yourselves!

If you would like to use them for your choir or special event, Sally DeFord has written beautiful obbligatos for flute or violin for many of the pieces so be sure to search for them as well.

You can instantly view the full music score, download and print it and hear the music played for the songs you are interested in straight from this site. The music is free and of good quality. You can also find other good links and YouTube clips on this website. Enjoy!

Spring is Just Around the Corner - Group Session Announcement

We have been considering dates for our Group Music Session which will be during Spring Break. Each of you has been eagerly preparing music to share with one another. The date which works best for the majority of us is Saturday, March 17 from 10:30 until 11:45 a.m. Invitations for this fun event which you can give out to prospective students are available from your teacher.  Please email us for an invitation if you are not a current student: burgartstudios@gmail.com.

Our theme will be Springtime. Snacks will be shared as well as positive comments and games.

The purpose is for students to get to know one another, feel comfortable working together, and learn more about the joy of music.

This event is a predecessor to the Year-End Recital, which parents will be invited to. Please note that because this session is considered a tool for learning it is for students only, although, some prospective students may be asked to bring a parent for observation.
